RE: Annual Elections for the 7th Management Committee, 2008/2009
1. On behalf of the Elections Committee, I would like to announce an extension to the nomination deadline because several available positions have yet to be filled up. Nominations will open for 3 days from 26th August, 9am to 28th August, 5pm
2. The positions open for nominations are as follows:
1) President
2) Vice-President (Internal Affairs)
3) Vice-President (Special Projects)
4) Honorary General Secretary
5) Honorary Deputy Secretary
6) Honorary General Treasurer
7) Honorary Deputy Treasurer
8) Business Director
9) Deputy Business Director
10) Publications & Publicity Director
11) Deputy Publications & Publicity Director
12) Volunteer Management Director
13) Deputy Volunteer Management Director
14) Volunteer Welfare Director
15) Deputy Volunteer Welfare Director
3. Nomination forms can be obtained at the CSC Clubroom at Yusof Ishak House ( 31 Lower Kent Ridge Road #05-04 Singapore 119078) and must be returned to the nominations box before the stated deadline.
4. A gentle reminder that the elections date is 30th August 2008, 10am at CSC Clubroom.
5. All CSC volunteers are welcomed to attend as independent observers. The Elections Committee requests that all participants of the elections proceedings be seated punctually at the stipulated time. Latecomers would be denied entry until the voting process is completed for the contested position.
6. The election procedures will be held in accordance to Article VIII of the CSC Constitution on Elections, and the CSC Elections Standing Orders. I would like to highlight several important points to note:
Presidential Positions
i) Candidates running for the three Presidential positions will be given no more than 30mins to make his (her) presentation
ii) All members of the club will be given one voting right per position. The election committee will be conferred upon the duty to verify the eligibility of all attendees.
iii) The general guiding principle for eligibility is "at least an committee-level involvement in Special Projects (starting from Grant-A-Wish 2007 to Ethelonter 2008), External Projects (2007/08) or a contributing volunteer with the RVPs (2007/08)"
iv) No void votes can be casted during the Presidential election. In the event where there is a void vote, a re-cast of votes must be carried out.
Non-presidential Positions
v) Candidates running for these positions will be given a maximum of 20 minutes of speech.
vi) Only elected members of the outgoing and incoming Management Committee will be given one voting right per position.
All Positions
vii) In the event that there is only a single candidate who is nominated for a particular position, the candidate in question needs to have 2/3 confidence votes in order to be elected into the Management Committee.
viii) In the event that none of the candidates secured a majority of votes, all the candidates have to re-present themselves for no more than five minutes, followed by Question & Answer Session for no more than ten minutes. A second round of voting will be held. In the event that a majority cannot be achieved, the seat shall be re-opened for nominations.
ix) In the event whereby a position of the Management Committee is left unfilled due to lack of nominations or by motion of no confidence, the position in question will be closed temporarily for nomination till later, proposed by any member of the election committee, candidate (s), current officer bearers and seconded by any member of the election committee, candidate (s), current officer bearers.
7. The Elections Committee reserves the right to make the final decision with all election procedures.
